[[When Water Burns]]
by Mackenzie Layne
(This is a dream sequence of a much larger story. The story is not finished so this is ''ONLY'' the dream.)
//“Her heart is pierced by Cupid, I disdain of glittering gold. There is nothing can console me, but my jolly sailor bold.”//
''-John Ashton Real Sailor Songs''
As the eerie fog rolled in, blanketing the water below, the captain encourages the crew forward, into the unknown. The waves silently crashed against the ship. It became sinisterly quiet. A gust of wind blew out the torches, making the moon’s reflection off the clouds the only light source.
Do you:
[[Continue onward?]]
[[Make a fuss?]]
“Onward full-pocketed curs!” the captain announced. “We 'ave our headin! Don’t let a wee fog get ye down. We’ll be home wit our proud beauties, sprogs 'n mistresses in a day’s time! Then we’ll all celebrate wit' rum ‘til we can barely stand!”
The crew broke out in a cheer and laughter. [[“Aye, aye Captain!”]]
"Cap'n! We can nah see through the fog! We shall stay put n' wait for sunrise!" you yell. The captain walks over to you and places his sword to your throat.
"How dare ye speak out o' line t' me? Who do ye reckon ye be?"
[[State your name]]The ship sails forward, piercing the waves beneath. You hear the soft rustling of the sails against the wind.
Then everything goes still once again.
The fog begins to grow thicker, reaching the floorboards. It begins coating the the deck, making it impossible to see your feet. Then your knees.
Do you decide to:
[[Make a fuss?]]
[[Climb up the main mast?]]
"Ye honestly reckon I care about yer name? I out t' 'ave ye walk the plank, then ye will surely find out wha' lurks beneath the fog."
You decide to keep your mouth shut and you: [[Continue onward?]]
or do you continue to question the captain: [[Walk the Plank?]]
You jump into the icy cold water and it feels like your body has been stabbed with a thousand knives. You try and swim to the surface, but something grabs you by the ankle and pulls you down into the deep dark abyss.
But what was it that killed you?
[[Try again.->When Water Burns]]You climb up the ladder of the mass; the wooden boards creak beneath your feet. You finally reach the top and pull yourself into the crow's nest.
You look out to the sea, hoping to see if the fog ends anywhere.
You can hear the chatter of the men below you, when all of a sudden an angelic voice echos in the background, silencing them.
The voice grows louder, and the [[blood drains from your face]].You, along with the other men forgot where you were going and focused on the captivating aroma that surrounded you.
The song lulled you into a trance.
Pheromones were released that smelled of the salty sea, but also something sweet. It was the most beautiful sound you all have ever heard, and the greatest smell you've ever let touch your nose, filling your lungs. Like a breath of fresh air, it was truly [[indescribable]]. The darkness then turned into a stream of different colors, pouring from the night sky. (text-colour:blue)[Blues], (text-colour:purple)[purples] and (text-colour:green)[greens], encased them and the fog glistened. The only way to describe it, was their ship became [[one with the sea and the sky]]. The sound of screams echoed around you, but the trance you were under left you paralyzed. You sought after the voice that filled your ears, but were unable. You watched as the ship splintered around you, pulling you slowly down towards the water. The last thing you see is a tail reflecting the light in the distance.
Something bit into your throat, but rather than feeling pain, you felt at peace.
The song never ceased, as if rejoicing that yet again, more were victimized to the depths of the never-ending sea.
